(Curriculum, Teaching, Learning & Assessment)

Charlton Park Academy (CPA), Greenwich | Specialist SEND (11–19)

Charlton Park Academy is a specialist secondary academy for children and young people aged 11–19 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including pupils with autism (including sensory autism), severe learning difficulties (SLD), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and complex communication and regulation needs. Job Summary

Post: Vice Principal – Quality of Education
(Curriculum, Teaching, Learning & Assessment)
Contract: Full time
Location: Charlton Park Academy (London, SE7)
Responsible to: The Principal
Start date: 13th April 2026 or 1st June 2026 or 1st September 2026 depending upon availability of suitable candidates

About the role

This Vice Principal post is a strategic Quality of Education leadership role, accountable directly to the Principal.

The role is designed to meet the academy’s evolving priorities in line with DfE national policy, the Ofsted School Inspection Handbook and the state-funded school inspection toolkit (from November 2025), and the Trust’s School Improvement Plan (SIP).

You will lead the strategic vision for Quality of Education across the academy, ensuring it is coherent, aligned to SIP priorities, and demonstrably impacts pupil outcomes.

You will drive the delivery and continual review of curriculum intent, implementation and impact across pathways and key stages, embedding consistency across departments and ensuring meaningful assessment aligned to EHCP and Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) priorities.

Quality assurance that changes practice (not just monitoring)

A core part of this role is to embed a culture of frequent, supportive and high-challenge quality assurance, ensuring that monitoring (learning walks, work scrutiny, pupil voice, planning reviews and assessment snapshots) is directly linked to impact evaluation and feeds into SEF and SIP.

You will design and lead robust QA systems that triangulate evidence, including learning walks/observations, engagement tracking, work scrutiny and assessment data, and pupil/family feedback — and ensure QA leads to meaningful evaluation and clear next steps.

You will work closely with the Senior Vice Principal so Quality of Education evidence and Behaviour/Attitudes & Personal Development evidence are triangulated for whole-school improvement planning and self-evaluation.

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a reflective, values-led senior leader who is curious, coachable and committed to doing the small things consistently well — because that is what changes pupils’ lives in a complex SEND context.

You will be a system-builder (not a “hero leader”) who can develop other leaders through coaching and mentoring, and who can hold high standards with clarity and compassion.

The person specification includes Qualified Teacher Status and a degree-level qualification, senior leadership experience (AHT/DHT level), proven impact on teaching/learning and curriculum implementation, experience of leading whole-school QA and school improvement priorities, and successful line management and performance development of middle leaders.

Professional learning, wellbeing, and how we work

We invest heavily in staff learning and sustainable practice, including instructional coaching, deliberate practice and reflective enquiry, supported by a wellbeing offer built into how we work.

Safeguarding and equalities

Charlton Park Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check and references. We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates.
