Our Mission

At Charlton Park Academy, our whole school provision is built on the belief that every young person has the right to a fulfilling, purposeful life beyond school.

We create a highly individualised, person‐centred learning environment that enables all students, regardless of cognitive ability, to develop the skills, confidence, and independence required for life.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum is meticulously designed to be both academically robust and life-based, ensuring every student is equipped with the skills necessary for personal well-being.

Charlton Park Academy Curriculum Organisation of Learning

For those students who may not be able to live independently or secure traditional employment, our curriculum is tailored to support thriving within social care or assisted living environments, ensuring that all learners achieve outcomes that reflect their unique strengths and needs.

Equally, for many, this means developing the capabilities to navigate independent living and secure meaningful employment.

Our Approach – “The Golden Thread”

At Charlton Park Academy, “The Golden Thread” is at the heart of everything we do. It seamlessly connects each student’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) targets with their daily learning while driving progress towards Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) outcomes.

This approach ensures that every student’s journey is shaped by their aspirations, needs, and long-term goals. By working closely with families, therapists, and community partners, we design bespoke learning pathways that provide the right balance of support and challenge, while also offering a broad and diverse curriculum. This ensures every student has the opportunities and experiences needed to thrive beyond Charlton Park Academy.
Through the Golden Thread, we:

  • Personalise learning to align with each student’s aspirations and interests
  • Provide real-world learning opportunities to develop functional skills
  • Ensure seamless transitions into Post-16 and Post-19 education, vocational training, employment, or social care

Our students do not simply learn new skills—they learn to apply them confidently in real-life settings, ensuring they can thrive beyond the classroom.

A Tailored Learning Experience

Every student follows one of our five pathways, designed to meet their individual learning, communication needs, and long-term aspirations.

Each pathway is highly personalised and ensures that students are working towards the most meaningful, aspirational, and achievable goals based on their EHCP outcomes, while also offering a broad, balanced and diverse curriculum.
