Local Council Tax Support Scheme
Have your say on Local Council Tax Support scheme
Royal Borough of Greenwich are proposing changes to our Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) scheme which reduces Council Tax bills for working age residents based on the income, size and circumstances of the household.
The LCTS scheme currently helps 15,000 working age households with their Council Tax Bill at different levels depending on their income and who lives in their home.
It is important for us to understand how any proposed changes to the scheme may impact people across the borough. We’re asking you to take part in this consultation to find out what you think and tell us your views about our proposed changes which could come into effect from 1 April 2025, any new applications after this date.

The consultation closes on Thursday 9 January 2025.

School Trip Grants scheme proposed changes
We would also like your views on proposed changes to a scheme that helps fund long stay school trips for children in the borough.
For more than 15 years the scheme has helped cover the cost of board and lodging for eligible children, making school trips more affordable for families in need. We are one of the last councils that still offer this grant, as schools offer their own version of support for students, through pupil premiums and grants for low-income families.
As it stands, the scheme offers support to council-maintained schools, with academies not eligible to apply. In recent years, more schools in Royal Greenwich have become academies funded directly by the Department for Education. Because of this, the current system has created inequalities in access, with not all schools or families benefit equally.
