Art Therapy
Art therapy provides a supportive space for students to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas through art.
For students who may have limited verbal communication, art can provide an accessible way to communicate and express themselves. During regular weekly sessions, students build a trusting relationship with the therapist and are encouraged to explore their own ideas, choices and feelings.
Students can experiment and ‘play’ with a range of art materials at their own pace. Over time, art therapy can help students to:
- develop greater self-awareness
- build social and communication skills
- manage and regulate their emotions
- increase confidence and self-esteem.

Art Enrichment
Art Enrichment gives students the opportunity to express themselves creatively without needing to use verbal communication.
Students create both 2D and 3D artwork using a wide range of materials, including clay, paint, polystyrene, sand and cardboard. Sessions give each student time to explore the materials, discover their sensory qualities and find creative ways to interact with them.
Sometimes this exploration leads to a finished piece, such as a painting or sculpture. At other times, the creative process itself is the most important part.
Sessions are flexible and responsive to each student’s interests and ideas. Adults work alongside students, noticing their choices and responding to their creative interests by providing the resources and support they need.
Through this shared creative experience, students can build trusting relationships, develop confidence and enjoy the positive impact that creativity can have on their wellbeing.
