Parent Online Sessions with Rhiannon Gogh

Deputyship/trusts and wills/planning for the future

We are pleased to let parents know that Rhiannon Gogh will be offering a series of online parent sessions focusing on future planning for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

The sessions will cover important topics including Deputyship, Wills and Trusts, financial planning, and preparing for adulthood. These areas can often feel complex and overwhelming for families, particularly as young people approach the age of 18 and parents begin to consider decision-making, legal responsibilities, and long-term financial security.

“These sessions are not just about legal and financial matters; they are about giving families confidence, reducing uncertainty, and helping parents make informed decisions about their child’s future with the support of an experienced professional.”

The first session will include a 45-minute presentation followed by 15 minutes for questions. We’ll also ask parents which subjects they’d most like us to explore in more detail, so we can tailor future sessions to their needs.

Our two sessions are booked:

Friday 16 October, 1pm–2pm Virtual Meeting
Introduction to Special Needs Financial Planning

> Register for 16 October 2026

Friday 6 November, 10am–11am Virtual Meeting
Mop up session of the above for those who couldn’t attend

> Register for 6 November 2026

Agenda

Planning for Your Child’s Lifetime

  • The bigger picture (10 mins): How did I plan for my son? What does future planning involve, and where do families start?
  • Money, savings and benefits (10 mins): Financial support, savings, means-tested benefits and protecting entitlements.
  • Transition to adulthood (10 mins): What changes at 16 and 18? Mental capacity, appointeeship, LPAs and deputyship.
  • Wills, trusts and protecting the future (10 mins): How to provide for your child and plan for the future.
  • Building your family plan (5 mins): Housing, care, family support, future decision-making and practical next steps.

Questions and discussion (15 mins)

We’ll also invite parents to tell us which topics they’d most like covered in future sessions. Transition to adulthood and decision-making may be particularly popular, but we’ll let parents guide us.

Zoom Meeting Joining Details

Parents will need to register using the Zoom links, rather than simply joining on the day. They’ll then receive their joining details.
