CPA Planned opening times for the rest of this week:
Wednesday 24th June to Friday 26th June
9:15am – 2:00pm

Due to the extreme heat forecast, Charlton Park Academy will operate reduced hours (9.15am to 2.00pm). We will prioritise the safety and wellbeing of pupils, but classes may close at short notice if we cannot staff them safely. Please read this one page update and make alternative arrangements, in case you are asked to collect your child this week. You are not required to send your children to school if you feel it will negatively impact upon their special educational needs and medical conditions.

Charlton Park Academy Extreme Heat Update for Families 24th June 2026

What we will do

• Follow EHCPs and individual risk assessments as far as practicable.
• Prioritise staffing to maintain essential provision and therapies where possible.
• Notify families immediately by text and email if a class must close.
• Ensure medication, care plans, and cooling aids are accessible and staff are briefed.

What we need from you

• Confirm emergency contacts and update medical or care plans or information with the school office, ensuring it is accurate and up to date.
• Ensure medication and equipment (including cooling aids) are sent in school, clearly labelled, and their care plans are current. Changes must be informed by parents prior to sending the young person in. Medication must be up to date to be administered.
• Prepare alternative arrangements so your child can be kept at home or collected quickly if we contact you.
• Check transport arrangements with your operator and tell the school office if transport is affected.

Transport and collection

• We will liaise with transport providers, but families should also check directly with their operator or escort using your usual contact details.
• If we contact you to collect your child, please do so promptly or ensure an authorised emergency contact can collect.

If your child’s provision is affected:
• The SENCO or class teacher will contact families of pupils with the highest needs to discuss individual arrangements and mitigations.
• If you have urgent concerns about how reduced hours will affect your child’s EHCP, contact the school office and request an immediate referral to the SENCO or their class teacher by name.
